The order is in effect from Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. until Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. It applies to the entire Commonwealth of Virginia. Below are some frequently asked questions about the statewide order. For more information, visit: https://www.virginia.gov/coronavirus/faq/

  • Can I leave my house?: Yes; however, you should limit all non-essential travel outside the home, if and when possible. All public and private gatherings of more than 10 people are banned.
  • What about religious services? Can I still go to my place of worship?: Attendees may travel to their place of worship, park in the parking lot and listen to the religious message while remaining in their vehicles. Participants must remain in their vehicle at all times, except as necessary to visit a restroom. There must be no more than 10 individuals leading the religious ceremony or functioning outside of the church in support of the religious ceremony. Faith communities should also adhere to any noise ordinances.
  • Am I required to present any documentation proving I am traveling for an essential purpose?: No. Virginia law enforcement will not require documentation from any individuals traveling outside of their homes.
  • What should I do if I see groups of more than 10 people congregating?: You may wish to report this information to your local law enforcement agency.
